Kimberly Crest w/ Tonya Joy Photography ~ Part II

Here’s the second part of my Kimberly Crest shoot with Twine Events and Tonya Joy Photography. I love the details on this one, and have been excited to share them ever since I got the photos back.

1OakandtheOwl_Pink Peony Bridal Bouquet

Katrina Kirk killed it on hair and make-up as always. Our model looked amazing and is so naturally beautiful. We were lucky to have her join us. I made the bridal bouquet super big and somewhat pave for this shoot. It’s full of peonies, garden roses, dusty miller, and I finished it off with hand died velvet ribbon.

3OakandtheOwl_Sequined Chair Covers

I randomly came up with the idea of creating a floral chandelier out of embroidery hoops. Trying to find a location at Kimberly Crest where I could hang it was a challenge, but I somehow made this tree work. Tonya kindly photo shopped my fishing wire out of the shots, but in an actual event, the space would have to be rigged beforehand to hang the chandelier. I think it’s a different and beautiful touch to a garden style wedding or bridal shower.

Here’s another example of Small Masterpiece’s amazing inventory. The knife rests kill me. So uncommon and lovely. They supplied all the china, flatware, and glassware.

Erica came up with these adorable favors to have at each plate. She wrapped them in antique handkerchiefs from Small Masterpiece. I think this is a perfect set-up for a ladies luncheon.

8OakandtheOwl_Pink La Tavola Linens

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I’m a huge fan of sparkles and sequins, so I was excited to use La Tavola’s New York linens again, this time in their Blush chair covers. We went a big rogue with the table cover and it ended up a little more 80’s salmon than we wanted, but it still accomplishes the job of pretty and feminine. If we were to do it again, I think I’d choose a pale pale blush on top with a lacy tulle underneath. This way the chairs would be the more dominant color and pop off the background a bit more.

10OakandtheOwl_Wiley Valentie Menu

Wiley Valentine created the prettiest paper goods suite for us to use. I stood the menus up in a bed of peonies, garden roses, and hydrangeas. Then we placed the escort cards in front of each favor. I love all these luxe feminine touches.

For the escort cards I used Tonya’s vintage scale and filled it with blossoms. Then I tucked the cards in it as well as down on the table below. We also placed the beautiful cake from Rafi’s Pastry and Cakes on the table next to it.

Phew! I finally blogged this baby. I hope you enjoyed everything as much as I did putting it together. There are some great ideas for your wedding or event here, and I’d love to see other peoples interpretation of them. I’ll be back next week with something… I just don’t know what yet. ;-)

Cheers!!

Kimberly Crest w/ Tonya Joy Photography ~ Part I

Sharing this beautiful shoot has been a long time coming… I designed this last May with my good friend Erica EspaƱa of Twine Events. It was my first time working with Tonya of Tonya Joy Photography, and was the beginning of a creative relationship I cherish. We really pulled out all the stops on this one, and involved some amazing vendors and details. This is part I of the series, what I call the pink and grey set.

1OakandtheOwl_Kimberly Crest

The shoot took place at Kimberly Crest in Redlands, CA. This stunning venue was the inspiration for our shoot, and we went high end with all the details, with a very slight touch of vintage needlepoint. Random right? I think it worked though, and is a good example where you can have a touch of vintage, or something whimsical, but still have the overall feel of your event be sophisticated and elegant.

2OakandtheOwl_Pink Garden Roses

Erica and I picked a gorgeous gown (called the Brie) from La Soie Bridal. Isn’t the lace so beautiful? We left the grey table uncovered for a more relaxed and rustic feel, but I think mixed with the amazing china, flatware, and pressed glass goblets from Small Masterpiece, it reads as high end.

3OakandtheOwl_China and Silver Rentals

I used a lot of locally grown garden roses for this table and bridal bouquet. As well as dusty miller and peonies.  I also included bits of flowering dogwood from market. They were the most beautiful branches that wilted in less than a day. It was so disappointing. And to think I had to tussle with someone at market for them. I arranged them all in this lovely little antique silver pot that had three attached taper holders. I made the arrangement so voluminous that you can’t see a bit of silver, but it kind of gives the illusion of floating candles.

Choosing one of a kind, antique china, flatware, and glassware is a sure fire way of setting your event apart. Jason from Small Masterpiece has such an amazing inventory to choose from, all of which he’s hand picked from all over the globe. You must contact him if this is something that interests you. His company offers full white glove service, and they design each place setting in conjunction with your wedding coordinator and floral designer, for a completely customized and cohesive look.

Wiley Valentine designed a beautiful invitation suite for us. I’ll showcase it more in the next post as well. But, I love her work and felt lucky to have her join our team for this one.

Ok, check back next week for the second post on this shoot. It includes a floral chandelier I dreamed up, as well as more detailed shots of the other vendors amazing work. Cheers!

Dolce Shoot w/ Tonya Joy Photography

Hello and Happy New Year (belated)!! I’m back and I will be on top of blogging from here on out. I’m hoping…ha! I had a post in mind about a month ago and then Newtown happened. It stopped me in my tracks and I felt like posting anything beautiful and lovely was frivolous. That feeling stayed with me into the holidays. I don’t want to go into it, I’m sure the feelings were, and still are, felt worldwide. Then I was  somewhat overwhelmed with family, the holidays, and my big New Years marketing push, which I will probably share in a later post. I came up with a really fun project to share my work with other industry professionals who I’d love to work with. I’m looking forward to an amazing 2013. I have so many plans for this year, and I’m even planning some huge new developments into the beginning of 2014 for Oak & the Owl. The journey should be fun, so stick with me and see what happens!

The shoot I’m sharing with you today comes from a photography workshop by Tonya Joy Photography. She designed this shoot that she called Dolce, around a red wedding dress she made herself. Here’s what she had to say about it: “Inspired by a fresh fall issue of Vogue magazine I became immediately inspired to construct a dress and style a shoot around the dress I was making.  Yards of red dupioni silk, gold accents, two freshly engaged and insanely in love love birds, gorgeous light and wonderful photographic medium, and a fun collaboration of some creative professionals and this shoot was born.  I called it Dolce...it is to inspire sexy, romantic, classic brides to incorporate passion, beauty, and a little whimsy into their wedding day.” I hope you like what we came up with, I certainly had fun doing the flowers. Enjoy!

3OakandtheOwl_Red Ranunculus Bout

The flowers used were amaryllis, garden roses, ranunculus, tree peonies, Henry Bockstoce peonies, double petaled tulips, French anemones, red astilbe, rosea astrantia, holly fern, maidenhair fern, and guava branches. I designed the centerpiece in a footed pressed glass compote. A few months ago I stocked up on compotes I found in an antique store down the street from my rose fields. ;-) They’re for a May wedding that I’m SO excited for.
